I visited St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans last November, and took a photo of a crypt surrounded by a fence that was topped with these three different finials, all in a row. I thought it was unusual to have different decorative ornaments on the same fence, but New Orleans’ oldest cemetery is filled with rich history and symbolism, so I’m sure there is some meaning and purpose to my mystery finials.
I textured the canvases with gesso and plastic wrap before painting and then finished with an oil glaze.
